Foundation

The Philharmonic D. Carlos I, currently the Banda Municipal de Machico, as its first conductor, Ângelo Álvares de Freitas was founded on November 1, 1896. (Músicos Madeirenses pág. 501, Xarabanda Revista 2008 pág. 10 e Revista Girão pág. 74)

Delivery of instruments
In April 1897, the instruments arrived and, in December of that same year, appeared in the press under the name of the Philharmonic D. Carlos I. (Músicos Madeirenses pág. 501)

Name change
By decree, he was granted royal permission (October 20, 1898) to be called, from that date onwards, the Philharmonic D. Carlos I. (Músicos Madeirenses pág. 501)

Teacher António Feleciano da Cruz

Golden wedding
On December 1, 1946, Jaime Rodrigues Gouveia was to be honored as founder, by placing his photo in the headquarters of the community and celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Banda Municipal de Machico, and priest Jacinto da C. Nunes dedicated to the band a sextile. (Músicos Madeirenses p. 502)

Historical Review
In the press published in 1979, Jaime Rodrigues de Gouveia’s name appears as a founder and principal benefactor of the Philharmonic D. Carlos I. (Músicos Madeirenses p. 502)

Teacher António Olim
The Banda Municipal de Machico celebrates the 81st anniversary of its foundation on November 1st. To mark this date the band will walk the streets of the village performing “marches 81” by the author of its regent António Olim.”(Diário de Notícias, 10/29/1977, p. 3)

Teacher José da Costa Miranda
José da Costa Miranda, was regent of the Banda Municipal de Machico between this year and 1984. (50HMM, p. 75)

Fire at headquarters
July 21, 1985: Fire at the headquarters of the Municipal Band, which was left without all the instruments it had, was forced to remain inactive for a year. However it was possible to save the musical repertoire as well as all the documentation that existed in the headquarters. (Bandas Filarmónicas Portuguesas, João E. D. Purchase of Instruments
Resolution nº 1136/85, giving an account of the allocation of “2000 contos” to the Banda Municipal de Machico in order to allow the purchase of about three dozen musical instruments, since they lost their estate in the recent fire. (JORAM, I Series, No. 30, page 672)

They represented Madeira
They were invited to represent Madeira at the BTL (Tourism Exchange of Lisbon) by the Regional Secretariat of Tourism and Transport, in January 2008, which was praised by their Secretary, Dr. Conceição Estudante. (Banda Municipal de Machico)
