Forum of homage to the philharmonic of the Madeiran music bands, the Virtual Museum – Philharmonic Bands of the Autonomous Region of Madeira aims to recognize the work of maestros, executors, directors and associates of the regional philharmonic movement and offer, through the retrieval and exhibition of documents, records and other species, a historical account of the century and a half of activity of regional community and corporate bands. It also serves as the Virtual Museum as a space for disseminating the rich cultural heritage held by the regional philharmonic bands that need to be preserved and valued so that, in the shortest possible time, not only scientific studies can be presented attesting the importance of the contribution of those institutions to the regional and national culture, but also and especially for its public recognition and for the society to be captivated for its meritorious and perennial subsistence.
To inform the history, the activity, the operation of the regional philharmonic bands, to promote the dignification of those institutions of culture is also to give account of the experiences, education and recreation of the Madeiran communities.
The Virtual Museum – Philharmonic Bands of the Autonomous Region of Madeira will bring together the history of the eighteen regional bands, complemented by administrative and musical documentation certifying the most relevant facts of their activity, photographic, phonographic and other media records, emblem and uniform descriptions, exhibitions of memorabilia and instruments, as well as information on the headquarters, social organs and artistic direction of these institutions, as well as biographical slides, catalogs of musical production and other documentation related to the work of the most relevant players in the regional philharmonic movement.
In light of the extensive and time-consuming preservation of the cultural heritage of community bands and the urgent collection of data on the activity of teachers, performers, directors, associates, politicians, leaders and other recognized figures, the Virtual Museum – Philharmonic Bands Madeira Autonomous Region – although its contribution will be summarized – will seek, through constant updating, to make continuous efforts for the consecration of the regional philharmonic bands and its contribution to the culture of the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
