Relevant Moments

Foundation.
The Filarmónica Recreio dos Lavradores was founded on November 18, 1872, by João de Nóbrega Noronha. (Revista Girão, p. 47, Músicos Madeirenses, p. 457 et Xarabanda Revista, 2008, p. 10)

First performance.
The first public performance in camp, occurred on October 5, 1873, and the band played on the solemnity of the Holy Servant of God. (Revista Girão, p. 49)

Purchase of Instruments.
Some young men from the county of Câmara de Lobos will send instruments from Lisbon to give themselves to the study of music and form a band. The instruments have come. They contracted with a person qualified for this purpose and it seems that they are already in rehearsals. (A Voz do Povo, 20-03-1873, p. 1)

Conductor.
Since 1912 the regent of the band is mr. Arthur Maria Lopes. (Diário de Notícias, 24/09/1912, p. 1). Staying until October 7, 1915. (Diário de Notícias, 08/10/1915, p. 3)

Teacher Replacement.
“During the illness of Mr. Arthur Lopes, regent of the Filarmónica Recreio dos Lavradores, he is rehearsing the same Mr. João Rodrigues do Nascimento.” (Diário de Notícias, 06/18/1915, p. 1)

In November of 1915, Francisco Fernandes da Silva Júnior, is regent of Filarmónica Recreio dos Lavradores. Flag and Uniforms.
In June 1924, the band Filarmónica “Recreio dos Lavradores” received the new flag and debuted a new uniform. (Jornal da Madeira, 01/05/1924, p. 3)

Contest.
On November 24, 1924, the Banda Municipal de Câmara de Lobos, won the 2nd place in the Regional Contest of Civil Bands, 2nd category. (Revista Girão, p. 52)

Name change.
The Filarmónica Recreio dos Lavradores, on March 21 of this year was elevated to the Banda Municipal de Câmara de Lobos. (Revista Girão, p. 48-58 and Músicos Madeirenses p.457)

Thirst.
On January 20, 1930, the Banda Municipal de Câmara de Lobos, proceeds to the inauguration of its third headquarters located in Rua de São João de Deus, and shortly thereafter, it moves to its current facilities, Sítio da Torre. (Revista Girão, p. 52)

First round contest.
In December 1959, Banda Municipal de Câmara de Lobos, was determined in the first round of the First National Competition of Philharmonics and Civil Bands, promoted by FNAT, in the city of Funchal. (Revista Girão, p. 52)

Competition 2nd round.
In May 1960, the Banda Municipal de Câmara de Lobos, participated in Setúbal in the second round of the National Competition of Philharmonics and Civil Bands. (Revista Girão, p. 53)

Contest.
In August 1968, the Banda Municipal de Câmara de Lobos, won the 2nd place in the second round of the National Competition of Philharmonics and Civil Bands promoted by FNAT and held in Funchal. (Revista Girão, p. 53)

Centenary.
On November 18, 1972, the 1st Centenary of the foundation of the Banda Municipal de Câmara de Lobos was celebrated, presided over by Colonel Braamcamp Sobral, then Civil Governor of the District. (Revista Girão, p. 56)

Legal entity.
The Banda Municipal de Câmara de Lobos was ruled over years, by internal norms and regulations, only became an association with a recognized legal entity, on May 17, 1974, at Câmara de Lobos Notary Office, where it consists of fls. 7-15 of book 351 / A. (Revista Girão, p. 52)

In November 1979, through Resolution 360/79 of November 22, it was granted the declaration of Institution of public utility to the Banda Municipal de Câmara de Lobos. (Revista Girão, p. 53)

Tour.
The Banda Municipal de Câmara de Lobos, in November 1984, made a tour to Venezuela, at the invitation of the Madeirense Social Center of Valencia. (Revista Girão, p. 53)

Festival of Bands.
The Banda Municipal de Câmara de Lobos, participated on September 18, 1988, in the 2nd Band Festival José Gomes Figueiredo of the City of Amadora. (Revista Girão, p. 53)

In 1990, Alberto Cláudio Sousa de Barros, conductor, succeeded this year, Virgílio Vieira Marques dos Ramos, in the Banda Municipal de Câmara de Lobos. (Revista Girão, p. 52 and 54)

Acquisition of facilities.
The Banda Municipal de Câmara de Lobos, for several decades occupying the premises under a lease agreement, would eventually acquire on November 26, 1993. (Revista Girão, p. 52)
