Musicien et militaires, avec le brevet de sergent. Artur Maria Lopes a été aussi régent des Filarmónica Recreio dos Lavradores, Filarmónica Recreio Camponês, entre autres.

Biography:
Artur Maria Lopes was natural from São Pedro, where he was born on November 10, 1877 and died in January 9, 1963. The musician was son of José Maria Lopes, natural of Santo António and Celina de Jesus Lopes, natural of São Pedro.
With 19 years Artur Maria Lopes married with Virgínia Maria Gomes in São Pedro, on November 19, 1896. At that time he began its military and musical activity, like apprentices of music in the Regimento de Infantaria Caçadores Nº 12. In the quality as an infantry musician he struck the sergeant’s certificate, with which he withdrew.
In 1910 Artur Maria Lopes performed as Artistic Director of the Harmony Regimento de Infantaria Caçadores Nº 12 and taught, for the musicians of this group, the first classes of solfeggio.
In addition to his activity as a military musician, Artur Maria Lopes was also regent of several harmonies: Filarmónica Recreio dos Lavradores, from 1910 until the end of 1914; Filarmónica Recreio Camponês; and Filarmónica da Ponta do Sol, in 1916.
In 1925 Artur Maria Lopes carried out the regency of harmony Música da Manteiga. An harmony founded by Abel Marques Velosa, whose denomination was due to the fact that its founder was director of a deposit of butter (manteiga) in the Rua da Praia.
Artur Maria Lopes was also regent of the Banda da Escola de Artes e Ofícios, between 1923 and 1934; and in the Filarmónica Academia Musical de Instrução e Recreio, also known by the harmony of Sir Crispim, in 1934.
