Biography:
Son of Egídio dos Santos Fernandes and Maria Margarida Baptista Gomes Fernandes, natural from Paúl do Mar, João Pedro Gomes Fernandes was born on July 22, 1968, in the parish of Paúl do Mar.
He owes his taste for music to his father, who played percussion, accordion and harmonica.
He took the first steps in music when he was still in the fourth class, and then began the solfege, and later devoted himself to the study of alto saxophone. At the age of 12, he finally joined the Banda Municipal Paulense. At the age of 17, he began his training at the Conservatório de Música da Madeira and concluded his 4th year of instrument training at that institution. Between 2 of October of 1989 and 13 of October of 1998 he was musician of the Banda da Zona Militar da Madeira. Civil servant, João Pedro Gomes Fernandes is an Administrative Assistant at the Basic School of the 1st Cycle with Pre of the Estreito da Calheta. João Pedro Gomes Fernandes was a performer in several regional philharmonic bands, namely in the Banda Recreio Camponês, Banda Municipal de Câmara de Lobos, Banda Municipal do Funchal, Banda Distrital do Funchal, Banda Paroquial de São Lourenço da Camacha and Banda Orquestral dos Infantes. João Pedro Gomes Fernandes is, since 1993, artistic director of the Banda Municipal Paulense.
