Founder and Regent of the Banda Recreio Musica da Serra de Água, José Manuel Correia Gomes e Silva realized his academic training in the Conservatory of Music of Caracas and integrated the Venezuelan Symphony Orchestra.

Biography:
José Manuel Correia Gomes e Silva is a native of Serra de Água, son of José Dinis Gomes e Silva e Maria de Abreu Correia. The knowledge and practice of music emerged through contact, in a bar that his father had in Serra de Água, with musicians from this village, belonging to Banda Nova da Ribeira Brava.
At the age of fourteen he “ran away from home” to learn music theory and saxophone in the Banda Nova da Ribeira Brava. At the time the harmony was on the regency of Abel Teixeira Mendes. With eighteen years José Manuel Gomes seated place, as volunteer in the army and joined the Banda Militar da Madeira. At the moment, in addition to the Banda Militar and the Banda Nova da Ribeira Brava, he was also guest musician of the Banda Municipal de Santa Cruz and Paul do Mar.
In 1975 he immigrated to Venezuela where he attended the Conservatory of Music of Caracas, in the Clarinet Course and played at the Venezuelan Symphony Orchestra. In 1989 he was invited to join the foundation of the Filarmónica da Casa do Povo de São Vicente, where he remained active until 1997, as its artistic director. In the same period he was founder and regent of the Banda Musical Recreio da Serra de Água, then integrated to the Casa do Povo da Serra de Água.
