Biography:
Son of João Quirino da Silva and Maria Matilde da Silva, Tito Abílio da Silva was a native of Câmara de Lobos, where he was born on 12 September 1937 and died on 10 December 2008. Tito Abílio da Silva was married to Lúcia Gomes de Freitas Silva, and his resulting marriage Tito Celso de Freitas Silva, clarinetist in E flat in the Banda Recreio Camponês and Nélio de Freitas Silva, clarinetist in the Banda da Zona Militar da Madeira and artistic director of the Banda Recreio Camponês.
Tito Abílio da Silva began in the Banda Recreio Camponês his musical training, learning to play horn at the age of 14, with the master Ornelas. To the 15 years was already an executant of this collectivity, to carry out his first service to Festa de Espírito, Camacha. He was an executing member of the community until the 1960s, continuing his cooperation, decades later, as holder of the social organs of the Banda Recreio Camponês.
In April of 1958 settled down of the army, began to integrate, of September of the same year Banda da Zona Militar da Madeira, to have served in this institution until the decade 1970, like 1st sergeant. In this period, between 1972 and 1976, Tito Abílio da Silva was still regent of the Banda Filarmónica do Faial and the Banda Municipal da Ribeira Brava. After the terminus of his tie to the Banda da Zona Militar da Madeira, Tito Silva was involved in the general service of the Army, attending in the 1980s Training Course of Officials in Águeda. Once the efficient service ended, Tito Silva moved to the reserve and retired with the major’s patent.
Between 1979 and 1981, Tito Abílio da Silva was secretary of the General Assembly of Banda Recreio Camponês. In the period of 1984 to 1994, he was secretary of direction to the Banda Recreio Camponês, to become president of the same organ in 1995, role that it held until 2005. In 2005 became reporter of the tax advice of the Banda Recreio Camponês, role he held until his death.
