Biography:
Son of Manuel Fernandes and Maria Bernardete Camacho, native of Arco de São Jorge, António Camacho Fernandes was born on November 16, 1971, in the parish of Arco de São Jorge.
He had his first contact with music in a very early age,as several of his family members where part of the of harmonies and teachers of regional arts education, among which his uncle António Fernandes, clarinetist, his brothers José Camacho, trumpet and euphonium, and Manuel Camacho Fernandes, clarinetist and, finally, his cousins ​​Miguel Camacho, performer and trombone teacher, and Alvarinho Silva, clarinet and music teacher.
He began his musical studies in 1987 in the Banda de Nª Srª of Fátima do Arco de São Jorge, having then joined the Banda Municipal do Funchal (Artistas Funchalenses) while he attended highschool in Funchal.
Looking to give continuity to his musical studies, António Camacho attended and concluded the general music course in the Madeira Conservatory of Music. In August 1992, he completed the compulsory military service, having then joined the Banda da Zona Militar da Madeira. In 1994, he took charge of the artistic direction and the teaching of wind instruments in the Banda de Nossa Senhora of Fátima do Arco de São Jorge, having also participated in the social organs of this institution. Since 1995, António Camacho is professor of the artistic education: having served, this year, like professor of trumpet in the extension of São Vicente of the Conservatory of Music of Madeira, in September of 1995 began its activity of teaching music in the elementary and secondary school Professora D. Lucinda Andrade (São Vicente).
António Camacho complemented, in these last decades, his habilitations: in 2001 attended the professional technical course of the artistic domains – level 3 and in 2005, executed the professionalization in service in the University of Madeira. In 2009, attended the postgraduate studies of music education in the same institution of higher education, having in 2010 concluded the master in music education for elementary school, taught by the Higher School of Education of Setúbal, with the dissertation A Composição Musical Book em Instrumentos Musicais Diversificados. António Camacho is Professor of Music Education in the Pedagogical Zone and he is Conductor / Artistic Director and Director of the School of Apprenticeship of the Recreational Association de Nossa Senhora de Fátima de São Jorge Arco – Banda do Arco de São Jorge.
António Camacho has been involved since the beginning in various artistic projects: since 1992 has joined the group of carnival troops “Os Cariocas” and “Caneca Furada”; Since 1997, he has been a trumpet player in the Orquestra Ligeira da Madeira. He participated as a guest musician (trumpet player) in the recording of the music “Caminho da Força da Água”, integrated in the ethnographic project – Caminhos da Atlântica, in 2007, and in the recording of the CD-ROM + audio “Instrumentos Musicais da Tradição Popular Madeirense”, in 2008.

Among his compositions stands out Acróstico; Marcha do 73º Aniversário da Banda Filarmónica do Arco de São Jorge; the Angústia funeral march and the Tudo Inventado children’s play, made for the VIII Festival da Canção Juvenil de Madeira; Vivendo a Música for the XXII Festival of Canção de Faial (2003); Levanta o Pe Zé.
