Biography:
Son of António dos Santos and Conceição Maria de Abreu Santos, natural from Câmara de Lobos, João Armando Abreu Santos was born on October 2, 1973, Câmara de Lobos. He is brother of Carlos Jorge Abreu Santos and José António Abreu Santos.
With 7 years he began his musical studies in the Banda Municipal de Câmara de Lobos, in the class of clarinet, and with 11 years he entered as running in the same institution. In 1989 participated in the “VII Curso de Ferias para Jovens Músicos”, organized by INATEL.
Was a member of the Banda da Armada Portuguesa between 1993 and 1999. In 1996 was professor of music education in the Decroly College (special educational institution) and, in 1997, was saxophone teacher in the Training Center Artistic of Sociedade Filarmónica Gualdim Pais, Tomar. In the year of 1999 concluded the complementary course of saxophone and, in the same year, joined the Conservatory – Professional School of Arts of Madeira Eng.º Luís Peter Clode to teach saxophone classes, musical training and music of assembly, position he plays today.
Took the position of deputy artistic director of the Banda Municipal de Câmara de Lobos from 2001 to 2007. He was conductor of the Banda Filarmónica do Faial from 2005 to 2009 and in 2008 he was one of the leaders of the ABFRAM Wind Orchestra.
In 2003 participated in the jazz course, organized by the Conservatory – Professional School of Arts of Madeira Eng.º Luís Peter Clode (CEPAM), taught by the Hot Club of Portugal.
He embraced the ABFRAM presidency from 2006 to 2014.
In 2011 concluded the music education diploma, taught by ISCE.
In 2014 took the artistic direction of Banda Municipal de Santa Cruz, that left in 2015 to take a similar position in the Banda Municipal de Câmara de Lobos.
Since 2013, he has been coordinator of the CEPAM cluster in Câmara de Lobos; since 2014, artistic director of the association “Império da Ilha”. He is currently artistic director and vice-president of the management of the Banda Municipal de Câmara de Lobos.
